Awarded for its artistry, the pottery of San Juan de Oriente is developing into a viable industry for its village while preserving the culture of their ancestors. A not-for-profit group, COMARCA TURS Nicaragua, has initiated a self-guided walking tour that promotes this art.
“It is their blood and life work,” says Richard Tuck, director of COMARCA TURS who is working with artists in San Juan de Oriente to help develop, train, and market the pottery with the goal of improving options and opportunity for the small village. On the tour you will meet talented artists, learn first hand about their art and find good values for Nicaragua’s finest ceramics.
